Afrikaans is Groot is one of South Africa’s most celebrated Afrikaans music events, bringing together some of the country’s most beloved artists and audiences for a night of culture, music and pride.

For the 2025 event, Virseker wanted to create a VIP gift that would feel worthy of the occasion. The gift needed to reflect the celebration of Afrikaans culture while still feeling refined, thoughtful and memorable.

Rather than opting for typical event merchandise, Virseker approached Splssh to develop a premium gifting experience that would leave a lasting impression on VIP guests.

The Challenge

VIP event gifts often risk becoming generic or predictable. Virseker wanted something that would feel special and meaningful to recipients while still aligning with the spirit of the Afrikaans is Groot event.

The gift needed to feel:

• premium and celebratory
• culturally relevant
• beautifully packaged
• memorable enough to keep

Instead of a simple branded item, the goal was to create a complete gifting experience that would feel curated and personal.

The Idea

Splssh suggested combining two elements that naturally complement celebration and Afrikaans hospitality: champagne and traditional soetkoekies.

Champagne captures the celebratory nature of the event, while soetkoekies add a nostalgic and culturally familiar touch.

The idea was to package these together in a beautifully designed gift set that felt both elegant and authentically South African.

To elevate the experience further, the champagne bottle itself would become the centrepiece of the gift.

Rather than simply applying a label, the entire bottle would feature a custom wrap design printed from top to bottom, transforming it into a fully branded collector-style item.

Splssh’s Approach

Splssh developed the gift set as a fully customised product experience, paying attention to every detail from the bottle design to the final packaging.

The project included:

• sourcing and producing the champagne
• developing a full-bottle custom print design
• sourcing traditional soetkoekies
• creating bespoke packaging boxes
• designing branded tissue paper and inserts
• producing custom thank-you cards

By controlling the entire production process, Splssh ensured that every element of the gift felt cohesive and premium.

The custom bottle design was particularly distinctive, wrapping the entire bottle in artwork that celebrated the occasion and elevated the product beyond a standard branded beverage.

The Gift Set

The final VIP gift set included:

• a fully custom-wrapped champagne bottle
• traditional soetkoekies
• bespoke presentation box
• branded tissue paper
• a personalised thank-you card

Together, these elements created a gift that felt thoughtful, celebratory and perfectly suited to the atmosphere of Afrikaans is Groot.

The unboxing experience was designed to feel as special as the contents themselves.
